GreenLeaf Garden Management was built from the passion and experience of founder Matt Dew, whose journey in horticulture began across the Tasman in New Zealand. Growing up in a temperate climate surrounded by rich, green landscapes, Matt found his calling early working in nurseries, retail garden centres, orchard properties and eventually the landscaping industry around Auckland. Those foundations shaped a deep understanding of plants, soils and sustainable garden care, and led to formal training in horticulture, earning qualifications equivalent to today’s Certificate III in Horticulture.

A sea-change to Port Douglas sparked the next chapter. After time spent working in the marine industry, Matt fell in love with the tropics, its dramatic growth, vibrant foliage and unique challenges. Inspired to master an entirely new plant palette, he committed himself to learning tropical horticulture and building something lasting for the Douglas Shire community.

What began as a small local venture more than 20 years ago has grown into a thriving, trusted landscaping and garden-maintenance business serving Port Douglas, Mossman and surrounding regions. Matt’s philosophy has remained unchanged: do things properly, invest in great people, and create outdoor spaces people truly love.

In a region where the labour pool can be shallow, Matt has built GreenLeaf by investing heavily in training, mentoring and equipping a strong team ensuring every project is handled with the care, expertise and professionalism clients depend on.
